The centrifugally-braked C3 does not cast as far as some of the little magnetic cast low-profile reels, but you are not likely to see them going up against big striped bass or blue catfish. This reel puts the heavy cranking power of the Abu Duragear system together with a smooth 15lb carbon matrix drag to generate some real torque. The massive star drag wheel and old-school metal level wind system add to the bomb-proof appearance of the C3.

I wanted to follow up after we purchased the KastKing Royale Legend baitcaster since we got referred by your site. We purchased it on Amazon early May and have been using it out on the lake for a few weeks now. Keep in mind, this review is coming from a beginner baitcaster fisherman. I’m not a beginner fisherman, I’ve been fishing all my life with spinning reels. After seeing all the great reviews on the KastKing and saw the price was pretty comparable to the other reels, we decided to make the purchase online. We always read other reviews online before making a purchase. The reel is very lightweight and casts as smooth as a babys bottom. Some report that this reel feels cheaply made, but we do not feel this way. If you want cheaply made, then go to Walmart. We have caught so many bass (and catfish) on this reel that it’s not even funny.
The things to pay attention to when choosing a baitcast reel include the gear ratio, drag system, braking system, weight, line capacity, bearing system and build materials. Once you find a great reel whose features and specs match your target species, fishing style, and technique, you’ve found your best baitcasting reel. Below are the features and specs of baitcast reels explained.
To top it all, Piscifun NEW Torrent Baitcasting Reel spots an adjustable magnet brake. The brake can be adjusted from 0 to 10 ranges to allow maximum control when casting. Besides, the reel is equipped with double-line winding shafts that increase its stability and durability. So, even when there is wind drift, the reel promises to offer you incredible performance.
Reel overview: Lews has introduced their speed spool LFS Baitcasting reel to compete in the budget bracket. From performance to build quality, it delivers outstanding reliability and lightweight construction. Something regular anglers like me appreciate, especially in a long session. The combination of features complemented by an irresistible price tag, this one is possibly the best lews Baitcaster for the money.
This TATULA is more likely Black Bass and Pike fishing Purpose.  I personally use TATULA for Deep dive Crank bait,  Lipless Crank, Mid size Soft Shad lure, Blade shad, Rubber jig, Texas rig, Frog game etc...  I would say this TATULA is all around reel for French water purpose.  And This TATULA had 4 different gear ratio. So, You can choise it for differrent purpose.  I usellay use 5.4:1 for Super deep Crank bait, 6.3:1 for Crank bait and Spinnerbait, 7.3:1 for Soft shad lure and Texas rig and 8.1:1 for Heavy Texas and Frog game.
Once the brake has been set properly for the 1/2oz casting weight you can begin practice casting. Start with overhead casts of a light to medium strength power. Depress the thumb bar to put the reel in free spool mode and quickly place your thumb on the spool. Your thumb will keep the spool from rotating until you release it on the cast. Bring the rod tip back over your shoulder like you would for any overhead cast. Swing the rod forward under moderate power and release your thumb from the spool as your rod tip reaches the eleven o’clock position. As you release your thumb pressure from the spool on the cast, you want to maintain the slightest pressure on the line on top of the spool as the line spins off the spool. This is often referred to as “feathering” the line as the amount of pressure you are applying is minute. This helps to keep the spool from turning too quickly.

This reduction in weight should allow you to cast lighter lures farther. It uses a mag4 system, a magnetic braking system which is adjusted via an external dial with adjustments from 1 - 10. You never have to open the side plate there is no chance of anything getting in or you dropping the side plate quick adjustments made easy. Swept handle - a 90mm handle which is….(moves paddles closer to the reel’s center of balance) resulting in a more powerful retrieve.

Baitcasters fall into the power fishing category as they are designed to handle heavier lures/baits and handle more aggressive fishing techniques or actions on the water. An example of this type of fishing could include punching weighted lures through lily pads or thick forage, cranking or speed trolling. The spinning reel does better with smaller lures and “finesse fishing” techniques, which would include sensitivity and “feeling” the smallest and lightest fishing bites. This would include fishing techniques like drop-shotting, jigging, bobber fishing, etc. There are many camps with various definitions on what power and finesse fishing is, but in my opinion the baitcasting reel lends best to the power fishing category.
The casting of a baitcasting roll well begins first with the correct winding of the string on the roll. Some recommend that you wind your reel with a super-strong cord to make it easier to learn the litter, although I advise you to follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Throwing a heavier string is easier, but using a line weight at the top of the bait cast reel will increase the recommended limit to getting you used to your special bait caster.
Baitcasting fishing reels usually sit over the pole. The reason why it can be difficult to master this is that it requires the use of your thumb to control the coil and bait arrangement. Many beginners who try to use this type of fishing reel usually have problems with the game. Backlash is when the line in the coil is tangled. Another name for this entanglement is a bird's nest.
Just because you are left-handed doesn’t mean you should have a hard time finding a baitcasting reel that suits your needs. Piscfun has designed this model specifically for left-handed anglers. The reel boasts 3-disc drag washers made from high-grade carbon for durability. What’s more, the drag system provides up to 18 pounds drag power for handling big fish with ease.
Keep casting the same weight until you can consistently achieve a decent distance without experiencing line tangles. You can then practice with different weights remembering to reset the brake tension with every new weight you tie to the line. You will find that casting heavier weights using your baitcasting reel is easier than casting lighter weights.
This guide will help you understand how to choose the best baitcasting reel for the money, one that helps you fish your favorite techniques as efficiently as possible, as well as coming in under your budget. For those new to baitcasters, we’ll cover the most important specifications to look for so that you make the right choice for your own personal best baitcasting reel. If you are familiar with these things already, then jump right down to our Top 5 baitcasting reels.
With all the improvements made to the baitcasting fishing reels, there is no reason to fear them. They are now easy to use and offer the angler many benefits that will improve his fishing success. Start making these more extended, more precise casts, letting you lure where the fish are today. All thing i discussed how to use a baitcasting reel. Hope it will help you.

Heavier Line– On a baitcasting reel, the spool’s axis of rotation is perpendicular to the rod guides, meaning the line comes off directly through the line guide and straight through the rod guides. This makes it easier to use heavier lines, from 10-20lb test on average, and heavier lures. A good baitcasting setup can easily cast lures from 1/4 to 1oz, and more.
This one is made by the famous brand Daiwa. The mighty brand Daiwa is not limited in the fishing sector only. They have a lot of products in random sectors. The journey of Daiwa began almost 36 years ago and till now, they are among the best ones. However, this saltwater baitcaster is in the second position of our ranking. Because of having some cool features and advantages like the previous one, this one is considered as one of the best baitcasting reels for saltwater.
Now it is time check if the brake settings suit you! You will only know this after making some casts, so now it’s time to go fishing! If you’re far away from the nearest water but still want to practice, you could try to find an open field (this is often a good idea when practicing, because it is easier to focus on technique and best practice when there are no chance of catching fish).
Another benefit of this tool is more control and better bait placement. Often, bass fishing requires you to place the bait in a precise location. This accurate placement can be awkward due to lack of control. Once you have this big fish on the hook, you have a better chance of landing it due to the increased leverage as the reel sits closer to the pole.

Round reels generally hold more line and are capable of holding a heavier line. They are often also used for fights which require long runs or for tossing bigger baits. It’s generally good for salmon, muskies, and steelhead. Low-profile reels are more ergonomic and allow for a better ‘wristing’ of the line. It’s also one of the more popular reels used today. This type of reel is generally used for crappie and bass.
You know what else? KastKing Royale Legend Baitcasting Fishing Reel has two color multi-ported whiffle style spool that is made from anodized aluminum for durability without adding any weight to the reel. What’s more, its line is braided making it ideal for bass fishing, kayak fishing and even trout fishing. Besides, it features stainless steel handle that is fitted with non-slip foam grips for maximum comfort when fishing for long periods.
You may be wondering what a gear ratio is. Well, it refers to the number of times the spool rolls over when you rotate the reel’s handle once. For you to choose the right baitcasting reel, first is to look for the right gear ratio which is very important. This is because the gear ratio affects the speed at which your lure is pulled back. At times, you may find the gear ratio on some reels and at times not.
As the name implies, the KastKing Rover Round Baitcasting Reel is claimed to be one of the best reels out there. This high-quality reel is employed by most anglers to cast the bait in the water during fishing times. One of the most interesting qualities of this reel is that it can be used in all types of water and suitable for bass fishing. On Amazon, the reel is rated number 1 and being boasted of by its manufacturer as to the fact that it is unparalleled.
The fishing performance is as refined as the reel. Lew’s reels usually exhibit great casting, and the Pro Mag is no exception. Great casting comes from double shielded ball bearings, an audible tension clicker, and a killer 27 point, externally adjustable centrifugal braking system. Throw in an integral bait keep and line size indicator, and you have one heck of a baitcaster.
The centrifugal brake utilizes (as the name reveals) centrifugal force to slow down the spinning spool using small pins attached to the side of the spool. To adjust your centrifugal brakes, you must first uncover the pins by removing a side panel located on the opposite side of the reel as your reel handle. Do you see the pins? Good, now the only thing you need to know right now, is that the way you adjust this type of brake is by flicking some of the pins away from the center of the spool. I will go over exactly what setting to use under How to adjust/tune your baitcasting reel further below.
I think one of the best pros for a baitcaster is its usages in river fishing (or moving water) applications, primarily with drift/float fishing setups. The baitcaster enables the line to slowly/quickly come off the spool in a controlled format. This is very important to get a “natural looking” bait when it’s drifting under a float in moving water. It’s much harder to release line smoothly on a spinning reel all the while controlling your rod and mending your line. This description doesn’t do it justice but I can’t stress this enough, baitcasters are invaluable for the river float fisherman.
Lever Drag Baitcasters – Instead of using the star dial, these baitcasters have a lever on the  outside of the reel frame. Lever drags will first push to the strike setting, then all the way down to the max setting. They do usually have a dial for fine adjustment. The bonus of a lever drag is it sets in an instant by simply pushing the lever. As you push the lever, it should gradually gain resistance all the way up to strike and then again up to max.
We love the casting performance of this model. The ergonomic design fits wonderfully in your palm and gives excellent control. The Magforce-Z magnetic braking system provides constant pressure throughout the cast and limits backlash, even with novice users. The T-wing line guide also plays a role in reducing the amount of friction of the line coming off the reel which further adds to the distance obtainable with this reel.
Over the weeks I’ve had it I have used it for Channel Cats (all I fish for) and each day seemed like it’s casting distance would be less and less.Tonight I was at the water again and it wouldn’t cast over 20yds.I reeled it in after the last time of trying to set the tensioners with no luck and propped it against the tree and fished with my other 2 reels (Abu and Shimano).A little while later I remembered I had a small travel can of WD40 in the truck so I went and retrieved it.I sat there tearing this reel apart and adding lube to everything but the drag.
Another factor that will determine how your baitcaster performs is its gearing. Gear ratio tells an angler how many times the spool turns per one turn of the handle. The specification always puts the spool number first, then a colon, then the number 1 to represent the turn of the handle. For example, 6.2:1 means the spool turns 6.2 times with each full turn of the handle.

The SX models have excessive max drags at 20lbs. For applications, this reel is intended to be used in,you’re never going to need the full drag to land a fish. We think the fine tuning of the drag could be a bit better, especially at the upper end of the drag range. You will be pleased with the low start up inertia, as this drag is incredibly smooth.
This is why: the brake is for preventing the spool from ‘overspinning’ at the start of the cast, whereas the spool tension is there to prevent the spool from spinning at the end of the cast (=the moment your bait hits the water). They both serve a specific purpose, namely to ultimately prevent the dreaded backlashes from happening in the beginning, during, and after your cast.
Gear ratio is defined as the number of times the spool turns when the reel’s handle is rotated once. It normally affects the speed of line retrieve. The most common gear ratios for baitcasting reels under 100 include 7.0:1 and 7.1:1. Basically, the greater the gear ratio which is the fast number, the faster the line retrieves using less effort hence you will not get fatigued quickly. To know which is the right gear ratio for your needs, you need to factor in the kind of lures you’ll be using. For instance, if you are going to be using Texas rigs, jigs, spinnerbaits or soft plastics, the best reel is one with higher gear ratio.
Lastly, the best brake system on a baitcaster reel is your thumb. No matter what special braking system technology your reel has, your thumb will always be needed. You’ll have to learn how to apply the right amount of pressure on the line to slow down the spool as needed. This is something you’ll have to practice, and it doesn’t take long to get good at. It’s mandatory to learn to avoid backlashes and get those accurate casts.
The braking system uses a magnetic system that is tight and efficient. Any time you have a system that depends on friction specifically there’s warrant for replacement, but the Metanium is going to last you. On top of this is the Shimano’s multiple gear settings. So here’s the use in that: the MGL150 is a great freshwater reel because it gives the strength and versatility to deal with the small-to-large range of fish you’re going to find in the varying freshwater areas of the US. Also, this gives the angler the ability to choose how he fishes, how it feels to fish, and what he can catch.
We looked at ten beautiful reels here, and of the whole bunch, there is no question that the Shimano Calcutta stands out as an amazing machine. However, it belongs in a glass showcase and the price does reflect that. We have turned up plenty of more cost-effective options for you, and every reel on this list will provide solid fishing fun. Shortlist your favorites then try to get your hands on some for a few test-casts before zeroing in on your own best baitcasting reel.
This reel was proudly designed by manufacturers to be ergonomic and put the comfort of the angler in check. It is also quite rare to see most fishing reels put ergonomics in their design. The non-slip handles of this reel are designed to avoid slipping off from your hand when in use. It was also built in such a way that reduces lethargy and exhaustion making it your best choice for long hours fishing adventures.

This is a low profile reel design built for comfortable handling, performance, and durability. The body weighs just 7.5oz/213g. It is composed of a precision cut brass gear structure, 4 disc carbon fiber drag system, shielded MaxiDur corrosion resistant ball bearings, dual braking system, strong and lightweight anodized aluminum forged multi-ported whiffle-style, and ceramic line guides.

Baitcasting reels are fantastic for a wide range of fishing techniques. The way a baitcasting reel is designed makes it ideal for using heavier lines that can handle heavier lures and provides greater accuracy during your casts. Speaking of casts, these reels can gain a lot more distance than other reel styles. Better accuracy is also achieved with these reels because of the easy handling as well as the ability to control line speed throughout the entire cast.
Tension Adjustment: The tension system puts physical pressure on the spool and adjusts its ability to spin. A lot of issue anglers have early in the learning process is not correcting the spool tension when changing lure weights. The tension should be used to match the spin of the spool with the size of lure you are fishing. The tension is not meant to be a breaking system, and if used that way is going to greatly wear down the reels internal components much quicker. By having the correct tension, casting distance and accuracy greatly improves.
The Shimano Caenan is a beautiful reel that offers outstanding performance. It is clearly a very aesthetically pleasing baitcaster, but it also is a great value as a reel itself. With a retrieve ratio of 6.5:1, it is a fairly quick reeling reel, though not the quickest. This makes it ideal for lures that shouldn’t be reeled too quickly and actually make it an ideal option for the vast majority of fisherman.
All Tatula reel models have a drag maxing out at 13.2lbs so you shouldn’t ever be in a situation why you don’t think you can stop a run. Diawa reels use a “UTD” drag system that uses oversized carbon washers which provide one of the most constant drags of the reels on this list. You also have full control of drag adjustments throughout the drag range.
This low profile baitcaster is thoughtfully designed and built for strength, durability, and performance. It features a graphite composite body, carbon fiber drag washers with a star drag adjustment, precisely machined brass gears, shielded bearing system, double line winding shafts, an easily removable side plate and a side-plate oil port for easy maintenance. An extended 4-1/3inch handle with EVA knobs offers power, leverage, and comfort.

On the other end of the spectrum, baitcasting reels allow for casting lures like jigs, spinner baits and crankbaits with pinpoint accuracy, but there is a dialed in drag resistance and require a higher skill set to be able to thumb the spool as line flows off. If you can’t find that sweet spot of thumb pressure, you’ll experience a backlash bird’s nest of tangled line.

If you’re an angler who plans on fishing for a while or let’s say you’re a veteran, and you’ve seen the worst of it, the simple fact is that your reel needs to last. Moreover, your reel needs to stand the worst conditions that can be thrown at it. If you’re someone who agrees with this, you’re not alone, Shimano has heard your call and made a nice long lasting reel to be an anglers friend.
The stainless-steel ball bearings in the base model are average, but again in looking at the price point of this reel they’re certainly on par for me. The gear ratio for the models are all different 100P = 5.4:1, 100H = 6.3:1, 100HS = 7.3:1. For a baitcaster I always recommend a minimum of 6:0:1 gear ratio, so I’d certainly recommend the 100H or 100HS in this case.
Available in left and right-handed configurations, the reel weighs just 7.5 ounces but uses a carbon fiber drag system to provide 17.5 pounds of maximum drag. The dual centrifugal and magnetic braking system allows for superior casting control, while the oversized stainless steel handle features EVA padded foam grips that help to wick moisture during the fight. The reel’s professional-quality attributes are even more impressive when one considers its affordable price-tag.
This often overlooked aspect of your set-up is vital for a reel meant for the long, hard fights you might encounter. Pick a reel that’s guaranteed to be comfortable in your hands and you’ll have a much more pleasant fishing experience, some modern reels have put a lot of time into creating a great handle for your reel but everyone’s hands are different.
If you have a very tight budget but still want to own a decent baitcasting reel, you should probably try this model by KastKing. The reel features 11+1 MaxiDur ball bearings that allow easy control over the reel and smooth long-range casting. But the best part is that the bearings are shielded and are corrosion resistant to withstand hardcore fishing.
Daiwa : The Globeride incorporations manufacturers fishing gears under the brand name Daiwa. It’s a Japanese company founded in 1958 with subsidiaries across the globe. The fishing gears manufactured to account for the majority of sales made by Globeride Inc. its fishing gears are of top quality make and are exported throughout the world. Along with fishing rods and reels, it also manufactures biking, golf, and tennis gears.
PT: Why are baitcasting reels usually cranked with the right hand, whereas spinning reels are predominantly cranked with the left? How did that happen in the industry? If an angler is right handed and cranks with his right, doesn’t switching hands to hold the baitcasting rod in his weaker left hand — cast after cast after cast — seem like wasted energy?
There is a wide range of gear ratios to choose from - from 5.4: 1 to 7.1: 1 and 8.1: 1. While these numbers seem confused, they do represent an extremely straightforward opportunity. How about a reel with a gear ratio of 8.1: 1? What this number means is that for every single key of the handle the reel will rotate eight times. Nevertheless, this does not mean that a higher gear ratio is superior to a lower gear ratio.
Depending on what you want out of a baitcasting reel, any of the three above are a great option for the best baitcaster under 100 dollars. Choose the one that fits your needs well – the Shimano Caenan for reliability and power, the Lew’s Speed Spool for speed and lightness, and the Abu Garcia Pro Max for quality at a great price. Any of these would make a great candidate for the best baitcasting reel for the money. Good luck on the water!
An important thing you should always do is to go for the best and comfortable tool. You shouldn’t trade that for anything as you wouldn’t want to spend the after-fishing time nursing the pain gotten from using a tool. Therefore, if your choice of baitcasting reel doesn’t offer you maximum comfort-ability when you hold, it would hinder you from being a skilled angler. A comfortable grip and balanced combination of rod and reel would help you achieve more accuracy and improved casting. We have tested out different baitcasting reels and their working mechanism along with their features such as tensioners, drag settings, thumb latches, and others.

When learning how to throw a baitcaster, stay off the water because you will have the urge to start fishing.  “You definitely need to practice,” says Ponds. “You will have a frustrating day out on the lake if you have not practiced because you are going to spend all of your time picking out backlashes. I strongly advise to go in the backyard with a test weight or a practice lure and make casts.”
With its 7.0:1 gear ratio, 11+1 noise free Maximus bearing which is corrosion resistant, ceramic line guide (monofilament line and braided fishing line compatible), this reel delivers high-performance results that are unmatched. This gives you more cranking power and the ability to perform different forms of rigs, jigs, and baits and enjoy a lifetime of fishing the big games with this reel.
The sophisticated braking systems and anti-backlash mechanisms on today’s baitcasters make it easy for anyone to learn how to cast these reels without worrying about line overruns. Some reels have a brake dial for adjusting the centrifugal brake system while others, such as the Ardent baitcasters Ponds uses, have internal centrifugal brake pins that need to be pulled out to engage the brakes. With plenty of practice in the right settings, any beginner can head out on the water with the confidence of having a backlash-free day.
Once you have the reel, spool it with monofilament line in fairly heavy breaking strength—14 to 20 pounds—even if you plan on later fishing with lighter line. Heavier line is easier to learn to cast, and easier to pick out those unavoidable backlashes. Fluorocarbon line is a good choice to fish with, but it is a little harder to cast, so start with monofilament. Don't fill the spool on the reel, start with half a spool or less. The more line on the spool the heavier the spool and the faster and longer it will spin. Spinning too long is what causes backlashes (spool overruns), so start with less line.
Here’s another Shimano added to the list. This one has the same aluminum frame as the Curado and a new introduced spool system which claims higher casting distance. It doesn’t take much digging to figure out how good Shimano has made it for anglers in recent years, and this year is no different. The Metanium shows a lot of promise as a great freshwater baitcasting reel.

With the powerful x- ship and heg technologies combine, the Shimano baitcaster is quite capable of providing the great cranking power and smooth retrieve. This one of the mighty brand Shimano is highly durable as it is constructed of metal frames which keep the alignment good. Besides, for durable and beautiful finishes, it has plating and painting techniques.
