Hey Steve, thanks for the comment and glad it helped, I love Abu Garcia reels! As for your question, you’re likely just fine with the 5601 model vs. 6601. The big difference is line capacity holding monofilament 240 yards of 12# (5601) vs. 320 yards of 12# (6601). What type of fishing are you looking to use this reel for? E.g. River drift fishing, Ocean fishing, etc. If you’re looking for a salt water reel the bigger reel capacity is more important, but if you’re drift fishing rivers the 5601 should be more than fine for those big runs. Let me know!
Lower gear ratios such as 5.2:1 and 5.3:1 retrieve slowly but offer more cranking power and you may prefer them if you want more torque to haul bigger saltwater fish out of heavy cover. They are best suited to deep diving crankbaits, big swimbaits, and slow rolling heavy spinnerbaits. They reel the bait slower, so it is in the strike zone longer and doesn’t tire you too fast.
Baitcasting reels are very essential for anglers. Those who want to use bigger lures, for them baitcasting reel is a must have tool. When the light line spinning reel isn’t useful enough, you will need one of the best baitcasting reels to work with. A best baitcasting reels give you complete control over your lure, allowing accurate lure positioning, and the ability to tug slouches out of cover and deep water.

You will undoubtedly experience tangles caused by spool over runs while practicing how to use your baitcasting reel. But, this is how you are going to learn what the spool feels like under your thumb while an over run is occurring so that you can learn how to avoid it. Some of these tangles will be fairly easy to remedy while others, really bad backlashes, will prove much more difficult or even impossible to get out.

Featuring lightweight aluminum spool with high tensile gears, this reel claims to offer smooth and efficient casting. The spool is big to allow less severe line coiling while also minimizing the overall weight of the reel. In addition, the reel is fully adjustable for greater cast control. As such, you can use it in almost all kinds of fishing situations and lure.

DICK’S Sporting Goods-sponsored professional bass angler Skeet Reese sat down with PRO TIPS to share his thoughts on a topic that countless fishermen are familiar with: overcoming the intimidation factor of baitcasting reels. For many, branching out from the comfort zone of spinning or spincast reels into baitcasters can be tough sell, but Reese — an 8-time B.A.S.S. tournament winner, 2007 Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year and 2009 Bassmaster Classic Champion — is here to help anglers learn what to look for in purchasing a specific model, the advantages that baitcasters offer when the chips are down, plus the best way to avoid the dreaded “birds nest” and make most out of your time on the water.  So, it’s time to put down that spinning reel and get acquainted with mastering baitcasters.
It has a maximum drag capacity of 25 pounds and an impressive line capacity that translates to 420 yards of 50-pound test braid. The latter is essential for offshore fishing, as it provides the space needed to allow bigger fish to run with the line during the fight. Other highlights include a smooth drag with a wide range of different settings; a power handle with comfortable non-slip knobs; and a 6.6:1 gear ratio perfect for fast action lures.
Keep casting the same weight until you can consistently achieve a decent distance without experiencing line tangles. You can then practice with different weights remembering to reset the brake tension with every new weight you tie to the line. You will find that casting heavier weights using your baitcasting reel is easier than casting lighter weights.
The Abu Garcia Classic round baitcaster comes in a few reel models: C3, C4 & C. Each of these models has a handful of sizes so there is no shortage of options for any fishing application. The Abu Garcia C3-6500 was the first baitcaster I ever owned. I’ve fished this reel hard for many years and I still use it today! That said, I dissemble the reel, clean and grease it each winter which has kept it like new. The price point and specs for this reel have made it mandatory for my list.
Daiwa : The Globeride incorporations manufacturers fishing gears under the brand name Daiwa. It’s a Japanese company founded in 1958 with subsidiaries across the globe. The fishing gears manufactured to account for the majority of sales made by Globeride Inc. its fishing gears are of top quality make and are exported throughout the world. This ultra-lightweight baitcasting reel from KastKing weighs just 5.7 ounces and is made from carbon, a material that is naturally resistant to corrosion and so tough that it can practically withstand anything. The 11+1 ball bearings are made from shielded and corrosion resistant MaxiDur, while the spool boasts hardy construction from aero-grade aluminum.

Since every bait cast reel comes with a complete mechanism, braking systems are also included. They are responsible for adjusting the rotation of the spool when you are casting, so that it does not get out of hand. Otherwise, if it did not exist, you would forever be experiencing backlash (the knotted line that remains with you when the spool continues revolving, even after the lure stops moving forward).
The 13 Fishing Concept A wins most versatile due to its usability in both freshwater and saltwater environments. The Concept A is made out of a durable lightweight aluminum. Small and compact it palms in your hand perfectly. The reel weighs 6.7oz and has a matte-black finish. It has 7 ball bearings (3 anti-corrosion, 3 stainless steel, and a Dead Stop Anti-Reverse ball bearing) making it useable for light inshore applications. This reel is smooth as butter and  bombs lures far. The Concept A sits  low on your rod which reduces friction improving casting distance.

The gear ratios and subsequent retrieval speeds on these reels are phenomenal. If you want a reel for fast and aggressive fishing, we can’t think of a better option. The gear ratios for the various models range from 6.3:1 up to an incredible 8.1:1! And as we mentioned earlier, what is impressive is that these reels can still dish out some cranking power.
I wanted to follow up after we purchased the KastKing Royale Legend baitcaster since we got referred by your site. We purchased it on Amazon early May and have been using it out on the lake for a few weeks now. Keep in mind, this review is coming from a beginner baitcaster fisherman. I’m not a beginner fisherman, I’ve been fishing all my life with spinning reels. After seeing all the great reviews on the KastKing and saw the price was pretty comparable to the other reels, we decided to make the purchase online. We always read other reviews online before making a purchase. The reel is very lightweight and casts as smooth as a babys bottom. Some report that this reel feels cheaply made, but we do not feel this way. If you want cheaply made, then go to Walmart. We have caught so many bass (and catfish) on this reel that it’s not even funny.
A great braking system is important with baitcasters as this will help prevent the brutal backlashes or “birds nest”. A backlash is when the spool over rotates after the lure has hit the water and these additional rotations cause the fishing line to bunch up on the reel. A good braking system will slow the spool down just before the end of the cast to ensure these additional rotations do not occur.

Intro: Our very first baitcasting reel is from the top-notch fishing tackle brand Shimano. Shimano is the brand to get your money’s worth. It’s a Japanese company that always gives us the best quality and affordability. That’s what separates them from other brands. We are talking about one of the best Shimano baitcasting reel, the Shimano Chronarch MGL series.

But the best part about this baitcasting reel is the fact that it can be used with any fishing line thanks to its ceramic insert-line guide. Moreover, it features a rubber cork handle that is slip resistant with a soft-touch and over-sized knobs to provide anglers comfortable grip even when it is wet. But what really makes it light in weight is its carbon construction for the handle, side plates and the body.
You can pick from many gear ratios ranging from 2.0:1 to 7.9:1 to tailor your reel to the kind of fishing you do. The slower retrieve and higher torque of the lower ratios make them appropriate for bigger fish and soaking baits, while the speedier retrieves are perfect for species where you want to attract strikes by moving a lure fast through or on top of the water. If you want a baitcaster for all-purpose fishing, choose one with a gear ratio in the middle.
