We like the STX line because of the high-end bearings and brake system, but also for the 3 different gearing ratios available (6.4/7.1/8.0:1). The Revo STX is essentially a tuned up version of the Revo SX. There is a gear ratio for everyone in the STX, where SX has only 2. The reel weight drops from 6.9 ounces to 6.4 ounces, and also has 10+1 bearings.
The Ambassadeur Morrum ZX-3600 is a best-in-class round bait casting reel by Abu Garcia and one of their few reels that is still made in Sweden. The price point is high on this reel, but you can feel the quality when you pick it up. Made with bass fisherman in mind, the Morrum takes 135 yards of 12lb mono or 30lb braid on its aluminum spool and sends it far out on incredibly smooth, silent casts under the precise control of Abu’s Infinitely Variable Centrifugal Brake system.
One of the bigger downfalls of baitcasting reels is their inherent tendency to tangle line easily while casting which is referred to as a “backlash”, “birds nest” or “over run”. This occurs because the spool often spins faster than the speed of the line leaving the spool.  This, in turn, causes the line on the spool to loosen and the line leaving the spool becomes jammed in the loose coils of line. This issue can be addressed through the use of the reels spool braking system which will cause the spool of the reel to rotate more slowly during a cast, which helps to control the speed at which line is paid off the spool.
The quality carbon fiber frame, handle, and side plates are light enough for your hands, though rest assured the durability and strength of the reel are not compromised. The magnetic brake and dynamic six-pin of centrifugal brake are sure to impress anglers. Also, it is ease of use is highly guaranteed - thanks to its 105mm of extended carbon crank handle that provides power and leverage necessary for catching the biggest fish.
There is an argument to be made on the shape of these guides to enable efficient line guidance off the reel. Daiwa uses their patented T-Wing System where the guide is shaped like a T, it creates a wide section (top part of the T) when line is exiting and a narrow (bottom part of the T) when the line is returning. Anyway, don’t get too hung up on the shape but make sure the guide is made from a quality/strong metal.

For a light-weight, light-duty, low-cost reel, the Okuma Citrix comes in with a good package of quality details. A diecast aluminum frame gives rigidity to the reel while graphite side plates cut the weight. A 10-bearing drive system produces a surprisingly smooth mechanical action for a reel at this price point. This high-speed machine weighs in at a mere 7.2 ounces but the reel still spools 130 yards of 12lb test line and pulls it in at 31 inches per crank with a 7.3:1 gear ratio.

When you begin learning how to use a baitcaster, everything centers around your thumb. Whether you’re right or left handed doesn’t matter. What does matter is that you keep your thumb on the spool of the baitcaster. Get a feel for it because your thumb will be on the spool quite often. In fact, the only times your thumb won’t be on the spool is when you’re retrieving line or battling a fish.

At some point in your fishing career, you’ll run across the great question for anglers who are looking to improve their performance – spinning reel or baitcasting reel. While spinning reels are great to learn on, sooner or later, you’ll need a reel that can consistently keep up with your evolving skillset – which is where the baitcasting reel comes in.
You know what else? KastKing Royale Legend Baitcasting Fishing Reel has two color multi-ported whiffle style spool that is made from anodized aluminum for durability without adding any weight to the reel. What’s more, its line is braided making it ideal for bass fishing, kayak fishing and even trout fishing. Besides, it features stainless steel handle that is fitted with non-slip foam grips for maximum comfort when fishing for long periods.

Press the reel spool release button. Baitcasting reels made since the 1970s have a mechanism to disengage the reel spool from the handles so they don't turn during the cast, allowing for longer casts. The first such models had the button on the side of the reel; most models today feature a release bar behind the spool that you press with your thumb when you rest it on the reel spool.[5]
It was kind of a disappointment from the start. My fingers had a hard time adjusting the spool tensioner on the left (craking) side. Then the tensioner wouldn’t stay adjusted. This turned out to be rubber discs in the tensioner caps on both sides so I ditched those (all while at the water mind you) for round discs cut from a plastic milk container. This seemed to help a good bit over the rubber.

Gear Ratio: The ratio is given as a number such as 7.4:1. This number tells you that the spool goes through 7.4 revolutions per one complete turn of the reel handle. Baitcasters are built for more aggressive retrieval techniques, so you will mostly see gear ratios higher than you will find on spinning reels. Most baitcasters will have gear ratios on average around 6.5:1.
Hey Steve, thanks for the comment and glad it helped, I love Abu Garcia reels! As for your question, you’re likely just fine with the 5601 model vs. 6601. The big difference is line capacity holding monofilament 240 yards of 12# (5601) vs. 320 yards of 12# (6601). What type of fishing are you looking to use this reel for? E.g. River drift fishing, Ocean fishing, etc. If you’re looking for a salt water reel the bigger reel capacity is more important, but if you’re drift fishing rivers the 5601 should be more than fine for those big runs. Let me know!
The Abu Garcia BMAX3 Max Low-Profile Baitcast Fishing Reel offers a couple of exquisite features which include Mono Capacity of 145YD/12LB, Braid Capacity of 140YD/30LB, the gear ratio of 6.4:1, 4 stainless steel ball bearings and 1 roller bearing. It also features a compact bent handle and recessed reel foot which gives a comfortable grip when handled. It has the dimension 8 x 5.8 x 2.2 inches and weighs 8.8 ounces. Reputation: KastKing stealth carbon review from users are actually good. With the score of 4.1 out of 5 stars, surely it marked a positive impression in the angling community. Since the reel consists of numerous features, a few of them may or may not malfunction. So in general, there is no inferior aspect of this reel in particular found in overall KastKing stealth review.

Gears and Speed: The connection between how many times the spool turns after one turn of the handle is known as the gear ratio. A high gear ratio means a faster spool. Physical Size Of The Spool: For large fish, which typically baitcasters are designed for to catch, you will have to buy a larger spool size so that heavy lines can be accommodated comfortably on the spool.
Those 10 double shielded ball bearings system prevents any corrode from forming and Zero-reverse one-way stainless steel clutch bearing grants you instant t fish stopping power. Lews very own iconic custom soft-touch paddle handle knobs let you fish for longer. You can literally hear the click once you use that graphite smooth star drag brake system. The braking system adjusts the spool speed during the cast. This allows you to adjust the speed in order to avoid casting backlash. There are 2 main breaking systems, centrifugal and magnetic. Centrifugal brakes work only during the first part of the cast when the weights, which act as brake shoes, are slung by the centrifugal force out against a brake drum. Magnetic breaks work on the principal that the spool and some magnets make a generator (alternator). The process of generating requires more input energy as the speed of the generator speeds up. Thus you have a form of electric braking. The rate and amount of the braking is adjustable from the outside of the reel. Most reels use numbers on the magnetic brakes where the larger the number, the more breaking power. Don’t forget, you always have your thumb to help too!
These are silky smooth reels and will remain that way through hundreds, and hundreds of fishing trips. All models have a 7+1 sealed bearing system. The bearings are corrosion resistant and provide incredible smoothness during retrieval and also play vital roles in supporting the digitally designed gear system. The anti-reverse bearing gives the reel absolutely no back play.

Eleven ball bearings make for flawlessly smooth casting and retrieval. The centrifugal braking system features 27 adjustable positions, while the carbon fiber handle comes with two custom EVA foam cork knobs. The reel has a high gear ratio of 6.8:1. Patented Lew’s innovations include the Speed Dial line indicator (to keep track of what line type and weight has been spooled) and a retractable hook keeper.
Bait-casting reels are often called casting reels and they're well suited for a lot of different kinds of fishing tasks. They sit on top of the rod and the line comes off a revolving spool. Bait-casters are a little more difficult to learn to cast and are famous for getting backlash, or a bird's nest, in the line. Prices range from very cheap to extremely expensive but there are a lot of moderately priced bait-casting reels that will last a long time.

Abu Garcia: Originally formed in Sweden in 1921, Abu Garcia was then taken by an American company Newell Rubbermaid. The company manufactures fishing reels and other fishing equipment. The Abu Garcia provides highly detailed and precise fishing reels and lines for anglers. With a community of more than seven hundred thousand followers, it is one of the most sought after fishing accessories brand in the world.

We love how this baitcaster feels in the water. The SX models have a 9+1 stainless steel ball bearings and one anti-reverse bearing that eliminates most of the back play in the reel handle. The standard models have a 6.4:1 gear ratio while the high speeds get bumped up to 7.1:1. Retrieval is incredibly smooth and as the gear ratios imply, incredibly fast.
From freshwater to saltwater, there are a lot of great baitcasting reels hitting the market now, and they come in two main styles – round and low-profile oval – and a broad price range. We will take look at some low-profile and round reels here, and cover prices and features at the high, middle, and value price points. Just because you are left-handed doesn’t mean you should have a hard time finding a baitcasting reel that suits your needs. Piscfun has designed this model specifically for left-handed anglers. The reel boasts 3-disc drag washers made from high-grade carbon for durability. What’s more, the drag system provides up to 18 pounds drag power for handling big fish with ease.

When your baitcasting-fishing reel is set correctly, it is time for your first cast. Press the release button while your thumb is still on the spool, and use your entire arm instead of the weight of your wrist to snap the bait forward. This reduces the game when you first learn to act. Make sure that the handle of the roller points upwards when casting to optimize the performance of the baitcasting rollers.
And the Revo4 X just has a “better feel” than the Pro Max. It’s hard to explain what I mean by that, except that it feels like a higher quality reel just by using it. And it is a quieter reel than the Pro Max. By and large, Abu Garcia baitcasting reels aren’t the quietest on the market. In my opinion, they tend not to be quiet reels. But the Revo4 X is definitely quieter than the Pro Max and the Black Max, by far.
Fishing with baitcasting reels can be very annoying for the first time. There are some things you are required to put in mind before trying to fish with one of these fishing reels. However, once you learn them, you will see why they become so popular. Baitcasting reels were in the first used in saltwater fishing. There larger fish were caught like a marlin. However, anglers started using them in freshwater lakes, especially for largemouth bass and other big game fish.
